Find the awkward junctions on the drawing

A cabinet that looks fitted from the front can leave an awkward gap at the ceiling or an unfinished edge beside the skirting. For a St Albans media wall, we measure those junctions with the main opening. You can then see how the new work meets the room before approving it.

We design and install media walls in St Albans, Harpenden and Radlett. Daniel discusses your photographs and a guide price first. The survey then records the room, existing features and equipment so we can develop a design for your approval.

01

The room is not a perfect rectangle

Ceiling height can vary along a wall. If that is reduced to one measurement, identical cabinets can leave a changing gap above them. We record the variation and the cornice projection, then agree the top detail before manufacture.

Our CAD article shows a 7.25-metre design with 105 separate components, including individually drawn shelves and fronts. It is a model from our wider work, shown during design. Drawing the parts separately lets you inspect their joins and clearances before manufacture, whatever the size of your wall.

02

Agree where the new finish stops

A fitted panel may meet an existing wall finish at its edge or carry round a return. That changes what needs preparing and decorating. We draw the extent of the new panelling and record which adjacent surfaces will be made good.

If old joinery is coming out, we check what it conceals. Flooring or skirting may not continue behind it, and the electrics may need altering. We inspect what we can at the survey and tell you where further investigation is needed before agreeing the replacement work.

03

Can an inherited TV position come down?

Possibly, but a bracket adjustment cannot create space through the bottom of a fixed opening. An inherited recess may have been set above a fireplace or tall cabinet. We check what occupies the space below and where the structural support and connections sit before proposing an alteration.

Tell us the screen height you would prefer and send the TV model with photographs of the whole build. We can compare that position with the existing opening and any appliance requirements. If lowering it means changing the frame and finish, those changes need pricing as part of the job.

What can change when you replace a recessed TV?

04

Compare the lower half of the wall in two layouts

A fire opening and a bank of drawers compete for space beneath the screen. Putting both there can push the TV upwards. We can draw a storage-led version and a version with the fire in the centre and cupboards beside it, so you can judge the trade-off.

Our fireplace-free concept illustrates the first option: continuous low cabinetry below a timber TV panel. Traditional panelling can accompany either layout. Settle what the lower part needs to contain before choosing the decorative details.

05

Show the access opening on the drawing

An access panel drawn behind the TV is only useful if the screen can move enough to reach it or be removed safely. We agree the bracket and panel position together. If access is through the shelving, the contents and shelf divisions must leave a usable route.

Before closing the wall, we establish how to reach the sockets and lighting power supply. The handover then shows you that route and the lighting controls. Concealed components should be identifiable when someone needs to work on them later.

TV, soundbar and fireplace supply excluded.

Useful things to send us

  • Photographs that include the cornice, skirting and both ends of the wall.
  • Approximate dimensions and the model of your current or planned television.
  • Examples of traditional details you like, and anything in the room you want to retain.

Approximate measurements are enough for the first conversation. We take the detailed measurements at the site survey.

    A guide-price call

Share a photo, the approximate wall width and your TV size. Daniel will discuss your ideas and give you a guide price before you commit to a site visit.

  2. 02

    Survey and design

Once you are comfortable with the guide price, Luca measures the space. We work through the layout, finishes, equipment and access, then agree the design and fixed quotation.

  3. 03

    The complete installation

Our in-house team coordinates the joinery, agreed electrical work, lighting and finishing. At handover, we show you how to use the lighting and reach the concealed access panels.

Questions about media walls in St Albans

Can you keep the existing cornice and skirting?

Often, yes. We measure their projection and condition, then draw how the new work meets them. If something needs altering, we include the proposed detail and making good in the agreed scope.

How do you finish an uneven gap at the ceiling?

We measure the variation during the survey and design the top junction around it. Depending on the room, that may involve a fitted filler, a cornice detail or an intentional gap. The drawing should show which approach you are approving.

Can you lower a TV in an existing media wall?

Possibly, but a bracket adjustment may not be enough. The recess, support, cables and anything beneath it need checking. Send photographs and measurements so we can discuss whether an alteration is practical before promising a solution.

Does a traditional media wall need a fireplace?

No. Framed cabinet doors and panel mouldings can provide the traditional detail, with storage beneath the TV. We can compare the proportions with and without a fireplace before fixing the layout.

Can I see the design before agreeing the build?

Yes. After the survey, we develop measured drawings showing the joinery and equipment. That is the time to adjust shelf heights, cabinet widths and mouldings. The approved design and finish form the basis of the fixed quotation.

Will changing an LED damage the panelling?

The access detail should prevent that. We plan removable lighting components and reachable connections before finishing. The method depends on whether the strip sits behind the TV, beneath a shelf or inside a cabinet.
