Berkshire

A photograph cannot specify the finish

A veined TV panel might be stone, decorative plaster or a printed surface. They can look similar on a phone and involve different work. Send us the reference and tell us what you like about it; we can then discuss the materials.

We cover Berkshire, including Reading, Windsor, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Wokingham and Ascot. Daniel discusses your room and a guide price first. Once that range suits you, the site survey and measured design let us agree the joinery and finish properly.

01

Approve the background and the veining separately

A photograph may have the background colour you like but much stronger veins than you want across your own wall. With decorative plaster, we can discuss those decisions separately. A commission described in our plaster article called for a pale lilac background with gold veining, a specific combination developed through samples.

That commission was still in progress when we wrote about it. The article records the brief and sampling process. For your Berkshire room, we would let the samples dry before judging the colour, amount of veining and sheen beside the cabinetry.

02

Ask what happens at the edge of the panel

An inspiration image taken straight on can conceal the edge treatment. Ask for the proposed panel material and a drawing of its exposed ends. Natural stone, a plastered return and a veneered board require different details; the face alone does not tell you what has been specified.

Timber grain needs a direction on the drawing too. On a wide cabinet run, decide how it should pass across adjacent fronts and finish at the end. These details belong in the material specification before you compare quotes, especially where one supplier describes the whole finish simply as wood effect.

03

Why removing a fireplace may not reduce the total

A completed wall in our cost guide had no fireplace and still cost more than another that had one. Its hundred-inch television, recessed cabinetry, hidden remote compartment and detailed fluted doors made it a substantial joinery commission. The other build combined a fire with geometric oak shelves and a suede finish.

Those are historical projects, but the comparison helps explain a revised quote. Replacing a fire with more cabinets or concealed compartments adds work as well as removing it. We price the whole revised design; subtracting the appliance cost alone would miss that extra joinery.

04

Allow for the finish to dry

Decorative plaster needs suitable preparation and drying between stages. The chosen system and room conditions determine the sequence. A date for fitting the cabinets does not, by itself, establish when the specialist finish will be ready. We include those stages when agreeing the programme.

Approve the full coating system with the sample, including any protective finish it requires. An extra clear coat added later can change the sheen. If a reference looks matt, tell us before sampling so we can work towards that appearance rather than try to change a finished surface afterwards.

05

Separate a material price from an installed price

A price for decorative plaster alone does not cover the frame, cabinets or electrical work around it. Before comparing totals, check the finished area and who supplies and installs each part. Ask which surfaces will be prepared, decorated and made good.

Our fixed quotation records the agreed installation and finishing, with TV, soundbar and fireplace supply priced separately. If you are considering a modular unit too, add its delivery, fitting and any separate trades to the comparison. It may suit the brief. Both prices need to describe the finished room you expect.

An honest starting point

Media walls in Berkshire: cost

From £8,500

Including VAT

TV, soundbar and fireplace supply excluded.

The amount of timber veneer, cabinet construction and feature-panel finish can change the price substantially. Your quote identifies the agreed materials as well as the dimensions.

The final price depends on the surveyed dimensions and agreed specification. Your written quotation sets out the work included before we begin.

Useful things to send us

  • Your postcode and photographs of the wall and existing room finishes.
  • Approximate dimensions, TV size and any equipment that needs storage.
  • An indication of whether you prefer painted cabinetry, visible timber grain or a combination.

Approximate measurements are enough for the first conversation. We take the detailed measurements at the site survey.

From the first call to the final fitting

  1. 01

    A guide-price call

Share a photo, the approximate wall width and your TV size. Daniel will discuss your ideas and give you a guide price before you commit to a site visit.

  2. 02

    Survey and design

Once you are comfortable with the guide price, Luca measures the space. We work through the layout, finishes, equipment and access, then agree the design and fixed quotation.

  3. 03

    The complete installation

Our in-house team coordinates the joinery, agreed electrical work, lighting and finishing. At handover, we show you how to use the lighting and reach the concealed access panels.

Questions about media walls in Berkshire

Can you identify the finish in an inspiration photograph?

We can discuss likely options, but a photograph alone may not identify the product reliably. A sample, supplier reference or closer image helps. We confirm the material you want in the specification rather than assuming a marble-like surface is stone.

Can I combine painted cabinets with timber or plaster?

Yes. That lets you put a chosen material where it matters most to you. We draw where each finish starts and stops, including exposed edges, and price the agreed combination.

Can Venetian plaster match a colour from another image?

We can develop samples towards the colour and effect you like. Hand-applied work has variation, so approval is based on the physical sample and agreed character of the finish. A phone image is a starting point, not a precise colour standard.

Is a media wall without a fireplace always cheaper?

No. Removing the fire reduces one part of the specification, but extra cabinets, concealed compartments or specialist finishes may cost more. Compare the complete design and what each quotation includes.

Can you build something similar to a modular unit?

Yes, where you want its general layout but need different dimensions or finishes. If a standard unit already fits and provides the storage you need, compare its complete installed cost before deciding whether bespoke work is worthwhile.

Does the price include painting and finishing?

Our fixed quotation includes the installation and finish agreed for your project. It also identifies the materials and any exclusions. Our current media wall starting price is £8,500 including VAT; TV, soundbar and fireplace supply are separate.
