Tell us what you would leave out

If you want a media wall in Bromley but dislike the examples with busy shelving and decorative plaster, that is useful to know. A photograph can show the sort of cupboards you like while also containing a fireplace or lighting you would never choose.

Send the reference with a few comments: which doors you like, which shelves you would remove, whether you want a painted finish. We can then draw around your TV and storage needs, instead of carrying every feature in the photograph into your room.

01

The panelling he already liked gave us the brief

Existing panelling was the useful reference in a design-stage brief from our wider work. The client was building his own home and wanted the media wall to have the same traditional feel. Our early geometric shelving and Venetian plaster ideas had missed that preference, and he said so.

The revised concepts used framed cabinetry and regular shelf divisions. If the first ideas feel wrong, point to a detail you want us to follow. A photograph of a door or panel already in your house can be more useful than another complete media wall reference.

Compare framed and panelled media walls

02

Get the door proportions right

Look at the base cupboards in the drawing with the television and shelf divisions visible above them. If the doors feel too narrow or the handles seem crowded, alter the divisions before adding more moulding. Making every detail heavier will not correct the proportions.

For a traditional arrangement, we compare the frame width with the centre panel left inside it. Keep one version with simpler doors when reviewing the options. You can then decide whether the extra detail improves the whole wall or just makes each cupboard busier.

03

Choose a finish you have seen off a screen

Before approving a painted finish, ask to see the intended sheen as well as the colour. Hold the sample in your room and look at it from the side. A shade you like on the wall may look different across a cupboard door under the shelf lighting.

Ask what preparation and coating are specified for the joinery, particularly if you are comparing quotes that simply say painted. Agree any protective coat as part of that finish. Adding an unplanned clear coat later can change the appearance; it is not a substitute for choosing the right finish beforehand.

04

Leave shelves empty in the first render

We developed the traditional concepts without books or ornaments. The empty shelves made the proportions visible. For your own design, review an undecorated version before deciding how many compartments you want; you should not need a collection of objects to make the joinery look right.

Then list what you will actually display. If the list is short, keep fewer open shelves and put the rest of the storage behind doors. Decide which compartments need light individually. That avoids committing to a whole wall of illuminated shelves when you only want a quiet evening glow.

Plan open shelves and closed storage

05

Make sure the quote follows the revised design

When a design moves from geometric shelving to traditional cabinets, more changes than the appearance. Door construction, handles and finishing need to follow the new drawing. Before accepting a quote, check that it identifies the version you agreed rather than an earlier concept.

Check the fitting scope alongside the finish: the agreed lighting, electrical work and making good should be recorded, with equipment supply identified separately. We work through those points before the final quotation. If another price is lower, compare those items to see which parts of the job differ.

An honest starting point

Media walls in Bromley: cost

From £8,500

Including VAT

TV, soundbar and fireplace supply excluded.

Painted cabinetry and timber veneer are quoted to their own specifications. Door detail, the amount of storage and lighting also affect the final price.

The final price depends on the surveyed dimensions and agreed specification. Your written quotation sets out the work included before we begin.

Discuss your guide price

Useful things to send us

  • Send the wall width, TV model and a photograph of the whole room-facing wall.
  • List the items and equipment you want to hide, alongside anything for display.
  • Include a reference for your preferred doors and any existing timber or paint you want to coordinate with.

Approximate measurements are enough for the first conversation. We take the detailed measurements at the site survey.

Our in-house team coordinates the joinery, agreed electrical work, lighting and finishing. At handover, we show you how to use the lighting and reach the concealed access panels.

Questions about media walls in Bromley

Can a traditional media wall suit existing panelling?

Yes. We can relate the cupboard frames and TV surround to details already in your room. Send a photograph of that panelling as well as the wall you want to use; the width and depth of the mouldings affect the drawing.

Can I change a concept I do not like?

Yes. Concepts let us discuss the layout and finish before the design is agreed. Tell us which parts feel wrong, whether that is the shelving, proportions or material, so the revision addresses your concern.

Is painted cabinetry cheaper than veneer?

Generally, for the same layout and comparable detail. We price the actual specification. A heavily detailed painted cabinet can involve more work than a simpler one, so material alone does not explain every difference.

How do we agree the paint sheen?

Use a physical sample and look at it in your room, including with the lighting you normally use. We agree the coating and intended finish before work begins, rather than choosing only a colour from a phone image.

Can I have fewer shelves and more hidden storage?

Yes. Start with what you want to put away. We can alter the balance of cupboards and open shelving, then check the door sizes and internal spaces against those contents.

What should I check when comparing quotations?

Compare the same layout, material and lighting, then check the fitting, electrical work and finishing included. Look for separate equipment-supply costs. A similar-looking render does not establish that two quotations cover the same work.
