Media Wall with Shelves. Built Into the Joinery.
Storage That Disappears Into the Wall.
A media wall with shelves integrates storage directly into the joinery build. The shelving is not an afterthought. It is part of the structural frame, finished to the same standard as the TV recess and designed alongside it from the start. The result is a wall where the display, the screen and the storage read as a single piece of furniture rather than separate elements placed next to each other.
We build open display shelves, closed cupboard storage and combined configurations across London and Surrey. All work is by our own team, fixed price before we start.
- Open display shelving at 300mm standard depth
- Closed cupboard storage with push-to-open or handle options
- Floor-to-ceiling builds in rooms with 2.5m plus ceiling heights
- Integrated LED lighting throughout the shelving runs
- All work by our own team. No sub-contractors.

How We Build the Storage

Open Display Shelving
Shelves built into the joinery frame at 300mm depth. Best for books, plants, ornaments and objects you want on display. Requires curation but keeps the wall visually open.

Closed Cupboard Storage
Floor-to-ceiling or lower-level cupboards in the same finish as the TV recess. Hides clutter completely. Push-to-open or handle options. Interior shelving for AV equipment and everyday storage.

Combined Open and Closed
Open shelves at eye level for display, closed cupboards below for storage. The most practical layout for most rooms. Gives you the visual interest of open shelving without the clutter exposure.

Floor-to-Ceiling Build
Shelving and joinery running the full height of the room. The TV recess sits within the run rather than anchoring it. Creates a library-style wall. Best in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.5m or more.
Three Decisions That Define the Storage
Open Shelves Require Curation
Open shelving on a media wall looks exceptional when what sits on it is intentional. Books with a consistent spine colour, plants at different heights, a few considered objects. Without that curation, the same shelves look cluttered within weeks. Before specifying open shelving throughout, we ask clients to think about what they plan to put on them. For most households a combination of open display and closed storage suits how they actually live better than either approach alone.
Shelf Depth Changes How the Wall Reads
A 300mm shelf sits close to the wall plane and reads as part of the joinery. A 400mm shelf is noticeably deeper and creates shadow that can make a narrow room feel more enclosed. The right depth depends on what the shelves need to hold. We specify depth per shelf run rather than applying a standard across the build so each section is sized for its function rather than a default.
Fixed Looks Better. Adjustable Is More Practical.
Fixed shelves look cleaner. No visible pins, no adjustment slots, no visible bracket holes. They are also structurally stronger and easier to finish cleanly at the edges. The trade-off is that you commit to the height at design stage. Adjustable shelves on a pin-and-groove system give you flexibility to reconfigure over time. We discuss both at consultation and design the shelf spacing around what you actually plan to display rather than leaving it to chance.

Media Wall Shelving FAQs
Questions about media wall shelving options, storage configurations and installation.
Ask a questionA media wall with shelves integrates open shelving into the joinery build around the TV recess. Rather than plain cabinetry either side of the screen, shelving runs are built into the wall to display books, ornaments, plants and AV equipment. The shelves are made to the same specification as the rest of the joinery and finished to match so the whole wall reads as a single piece.
300mm is the standard depth for display shelving on a media wall. It accommodates books, plants and decorative objects without projecting too far from the wall. For shelves that need to house AV equipment such as a sky box, amplifier or games console, we recommend 400mm minimum. We confirm all shelf depths at the design stage based on what you plan to store.
Open shelving looks better but requires you to curate what sits on them. Closed cupboards hide clutter but add visual weight to the wall. The most practical solution for most homes is a combination: open shelves at eye level for display, closed cupboards at lower level for day-to-day storage. We advise on the right split at consultation based on how you live in the room.
Yes, and it is one of the most striking configurations. Floor-to-ceiling shelving flanking a TV recess creates a library-style wall and makes the room feel larger. The structural approach is different to standard shelf brackets. The shelving runs are integrated into the joinery frame so they do not rely on the wall for support. This means the build is stable regardless of the wall construction behind.
A media wall with shelving starts from £7,000. The final cost depends on the extent of the shelving, the number of runs, whether closed storage is included, the finish and the overall size of the build. All quotes are itemised and fixed before work begins. No hidden costs.
Yes. Our shelves are built from solid MDF or timber with a structural frame behind, not floating shelf brackets. Each shelf is rated to hold books and AV equipment without deflection. For particularly heavy loads such as large vinyl record collections or multiple pieces of AV equipment, we specify thicker shelf substrates and confirm load capacity at the design stage.
Yes. A fireplace, TV recess and open shelving is one of the most requested briefs we receive. The fireplace sits within the lower section of the joinery unit, the TV is recessed above it, and shelving runs either side. We manage the full build including structural framing, electrical installation certified to Part P and all joinery and finishing work.
