Bespoke Under Stairs Storage
The Most Wasted Space in Your Home. Used Properly.
We go into a lot of homes where the space under the stairs is doing almost nothing. A vacuum cleaner wedged in, a coat hook, maybe a box nobody's opened in two years. It's usually the most useful void in the house and consistently the most wasted one. The reason off-the-shelf won't work here isn't complicated: the ceiling slopes, the depth changes along the run, nothing is square. You need something made for that exact space.
When we visit, we take full measurements, find out what's running through the void, and ask what you actually want it to do. Most clients want the basics first: somewhere for coats and shoes that isn't just a pile by the door. Others have bigger plans. We'll tell you what's possible for your specific staircase and give you a full quote before anything gets agreed.
- Built to the exact angles and dimensions of your staircase
- Fitted cupboards, drawers, shelving or a home office nook
- Painted MDF, timber veneer or lacquer finishes
- All work by our own team. No sub-contractors.

What Can Go Under Your Stairs
Fitted Cupboard
This is the most common brief we get. A flush door, shelving behind it, somewhere to put the coats, the Hoover, the bags that pile up by the front door. When it's finished it reads as part of the wall, not an addition.
Drawers and Shoe Storage
Shoe storage is what people ask for most. The lower part of the void is usually the right height for it. We map the drawer layout to what you own: shoes at the bottom, seasonal stuff in the deeper drawers, everyday items where you can reach them without pulling everything out.
Home Office Nook
We've built a few of these since more people started working from home, and they work better than most expect. A fold-out desk, a shelf or two, power where you need it. Not a full office, but if you need a few focused hours and don't have a spare room, the void under the stairs is a good place for it.

Built Around the Angles, Not Against Them
Every under stairs space we work in is different. The ceiling slopes at its own angle, the depth changes along the length, and there's almost always something running through the void that isn't on any drawing: a gas pipe, a soil stack, cables someone rerouted years ago. We find it all at consultation and design around it. Everything is built in situ and scribed to the actual surfaces, not to what the tape measure said they'd be.
Access panels go in wherever services need to stay reachable. We don't box in anything that shouldn't be. When it's done, it should look like it was always there.
- Built in situ, scribed to every surface

Under Stairs Storage FAQs
Everything you need to know before commissioning your bespoke under stairs storage.
Ask a questionMore than most people expect. The briefs we get most often are a fitted cupboard with shelving, a drawer and shoe storage setup, a home office nook, or a wine rack. What's possible depends on your specific staircase. We measure up at consultation and give you a straight answer about what the space can take.
No. Bespoke under stairs storage is internal joinery and does not require planning permission. If your home is listed, check with your local authority before any internal alterations. For standard residential properties there is nothing to apply for.
Yes, and it's something we check on every job. Most under stairs spaces have something running through them: water pipes, a gas supply, cables that got rerouted at some point and ended up in there. We find it all at consultation. If it needs to stay accessible, we build an access panel into the joinery. Nothing gets boxed in that shouldn't be.
From £5,000. A straightforward fitted cupboard with painted MDF shelving and a flush door sits at the lower end. A full conversion with drawers, pull-out shoe racks and integrated lighting sits higher. All quotes are fixed price and itemised before we start.
Usually 2 to 3 days for a standard build. If you're going for multiple drawer banks or a home office setup it's more like 4 to 5. We give you the exact programme with your quote so you can plan around it.
